    About this tool

How many days until Christmas? Until Thanksgiving? Until your own deadline, trip, or anniversary? The Days Until Calculator answers with exact calendar arithmetic instead of a lookup table, which matters because many holidays do not sit on a fixed date. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Memorial Day is the last Monday of May, Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May, and Easter moves every year according to the Gregorian computus, the algorithm churches and calendars have used for centuries — each of those rules is computed directly, so the answer stays correct next year and the year after. Pick any event from the list and you get the number of days to go, the full date in long form, and a live countdown ticking down the hours, minutes, and seconds. Once a date passes, the counter rolls forward to next year's occurrence automatically, so the number you see is always the next one coming. The upcoming-events list sorts every holiday by how soon it arrives, which makes it easy to see what is next at a glance. And when your date is not a holiday at all — a wedding, a flight, a product launch, a due date — pick it in the custom date field and count to that instead.

    How it works

    1. Choose an event from the dropdown — Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Halloween, federal holidays, and more.
    2. Read the big day count, the target date in long format, and the live hours-minutes-seconds countdown beneath it.
    3. Or pick any date of your own in the custom date field to count down to a personal event instead.
    4. Scan the upcoming-events list, sorted by soonest first, to see every holiday's date and day count side by side.

    Frequently asked questions

How are moving holidays like Thanksgiving and Easter calculated?

From their actual rules. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Memorial Day the last Monday of May, and Easter is computed with the Gregorian computus algorithm. Thanksgiving 2026, for instance, falls on November 26, and Easter 2026 on April 5.

What happens after the day passes?

The counter rolls over automatically. The day after Christmas, for example, it starts counting to next year's Christmas, so the count is always to the next occurrence — 364 days on December 26, 2026.

    Does the count include today?

The count is the number of whole calendar days between today and the target date. On the day itself the count is zero and the page says Today. Differences are computed in UTC day numbers, so daylight-saving changes never skew the result.

Can I count down to a date that is not a holiday?

Yes. Use the custom date field to pick any date — a wedding, vacation, deadline, or birthday — and the calculator shows the days remaining and the live countdown to that date instead.

    Which holidays are included?

Christmas, New Year's Day and Eve, Halloween, Valentine's Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, MLK Day, Presidents' Day, and Black Friday — a mix of fixed dates and rule-based US holidays.
